The Russian teenager disposed of her body parts in rubbish bins and the sewage drains, according to law enforcement.
Kristina Khamrayeva had been missing for two months when Russian police uncovered her macabre fate after the boy Kirill Volsky - whose picture has not been released - was put through a lie detector test, say police.
In August, the teenager had lied to his mother, saying her was staying with a school friend and his grandmother, it was reported.
In fact, he had used his savings to fly 3,900 miles across Russia from Khabarovsk to Moscow to meet the girl who he had befriended online on anime social media groups.
He told Kristina he had flown to the Russian capital with his mother to attend the wedding of a family friend.
They met up several times but he was "jealous" that she didn't spend all her time with him, and still hung out with her female friends.
His mother Olga later said that he told the girl he wanted to marry her and have children after completing his military service.
But she had spurned his advances. He killed her with a knife in a Moscow flat he had rented, according to reports citing law enforcement.
Then he dismembered her body and disposed of the parts in rubbing bins and sewage drains.
He spoke to his "worried sick" mother who saw on a video call that he had been "crying".
A massive search was launched for Kristina, including by volunteers with posters saying she was last seen on 26 August wearing black jeans, black trainers, a white T-shirt with strawberries on it and carrying a pink backpack.
Investigators quizzed the boy who denied any wrong doing. But the he stopped taking calls from detectives.
Investigators flew from Moscow to quiz him - and he was put through a lie detector. During this he confessed to killing the girl and explained where had disposed her remains.
None of her body parts were found because of the time that had elapsed since she was murdered.
He now faces trail and his mother called for him to be "punished" for killing the girl.
